No subscription. No recurring payments. No pressure.
A PERSONAL NOTE FROM GERARD:
Over the past few months, I’ve been planning to re-launch The Crash Course as a monthly membership. But the more I thought about it, the more it just didn't sit right.
I'm tired of everything being a subscription. We all have enough monthly charges. Enough passwords. Enough services we sign up for with good intentions and eventually forget. I don't want this course to become one more item on that list.
I didn’t create this to pull money out of your account every month. I created it because I've been where you are. Before I produced documentaries and nonprofit videos, I was a nonprofit communications director. I know what it's like to have an endless to-do list and a non-existent budget.
You know video matters. You know it's one of the best ways to connect people to your work. You just need someone to show you how to make it fit into your day-to-day.
So I've simplified everything. Instead of a membership, The Crash Course is now a complete, eight-part course you can work through at your own pace and revisit whenever you need it. No subscription. No recurring payments. No pressure. I didn't build this course to give you one more thing to keep up with. I built it so you could learn a skill once and use it for the rest of your career.
The goal is to help you stop avoiding video and start using it as naturally as you use email, social media, or a press release. Because when video becomes a normal part of how your organization communicates, your stories get told more often and they reach more people. Period.
So for the moment, I'm offering the course for a one-time charge of $199. But this will change on July 21, 2026. After that, the regular price will be $249.
If you've been waiting for a simple, practical way to finally get more comfortable creating videos, I'd love to have you.
Thanks for sticking with me while I figured out the best way to offer this.
This is the way,
— Gerard

The Crash Course is an 8-part course that empowers individuals and nonprofits to create engaging video content. You’ll learn how to create videos using only your cell phone. And we’ll teach you the rest, including how to: prepare for a video project, conduct interviews, shoot and edit video using your cell phone, and share your content on social media.
Each session is hosted by Gerard Matthews, a documentary filmmaker, and former journalist and nonprofit communications director. Gerard has worked with countless nonprofits, candidates, movements, causes, and artists to help them tell their stories. Engaging video content costs money and takes time. But you have everything you need to make your own. We can show you how. The Crash Course pulls from our experience in TV news, nonprofit communications, and video production to empower nonprofit communicators to create their own videos that build community, celebrate their work, and amplify their message.
